Our Story
Our Story
Despite living together for an entire year in 15th Company, we never once talked before other than saying “hey” or “what’s up” in the hallways because we both had made prior judgements of each other before ever meeting. We soon came to realize that our prior judgements were completely wrong, which pointed to the idea of “don’t judge a book by its cover.”
We truly became friends over Plebe Summer Detail, which is the training for new appointees to the Naval Academy. Throughout Plebe Summer, we would often spend time together in the lounge area, complaining about the difficulties of training plebes at the Naval Academy, which slowly developed our friendship. After our summer training together, we carried on our friendship into the academic year.
During the academic year, we started watching Netflix shows together and staying up through the wee hours of the night just to talk about our day and complain about the rigorous Naval Academy lifestyle. We soon began dating because of our different yet so compatible personalities and our similar childhood backgrounds.
We knew we were getting married two months into our relationship, which most people would consider a little too fast for their taste; however, we have always considered ourselves to be on the “fast track” in compared to most relationships. Our similar childhoods, families, and compatible personalities were a recipe for us to fall in love so quickly. Because of this, we were talking about the engagement and wedding well into the beginning stages of our relationship.
Dalton
“I knew I was going to marry Hana roughly two months into our relationship. She’s beautiful, funny, and her cute little laugh has always made my heart skip a beat. In terms of personality, I have always had a more linear way of thinking, being a Mechanical Engineer and enjoying tasks that require me to follow a straight path of learning. Hana on the other hand is the Chinese major who loves the arts and creativity, so our different personalities blended so well together as I found what the other person lacked, the other made up for. This along with our similar backgrounds made me realize this is the person I want to grow old with. Because of all this, I proposed to Hana (with the ring she picked out) on June 20, 2021, and I can’t wait to have her by my side for the rest of my life.”
Hana
“I hate to admit it, but tough times really do bring people together in the oddest and yet the most beautiful ways. For those that don’t know, Plebe Summer and frankly the entirety of my Senior year during the peak of COVID-19 was an emotionally draining experience. During these unprecedented times, Dalton was always the one to be by my side, and quite frankly, he was the only one I wanted there. For someone that comes across as a macho-meathead-gym bro kind of guy, Dalton is the most caring, gentle and kind-hearted person I have ever met. He always knows exactly what to say, how to make me laugh when all I want to do is cry and most importantly, he loves to vegetate and nap as much as I do.
Hana
"Had someone told me two years ago that I’d be falling in love with someone that was in my own company and from the Academy, I would’ve never believed them. And yet here we are now and I couldn’t imagine wanting to be with anyone else or start my future and career with anyone else by my side except Dalton. It’s true that when you meet “the one,” you just know. It’s a complicated feeling to explain, but with Dalton I feel like words can’t justify how amazing he is and all I knew I wanted was to build my life and future with him, so I did what any girl naturally does when they want to get married; send links to wedding rings. And all jokes aside, I would marry Dalton even if he had proposed with a rubber ring like the ones you can get from Amazon. Everything about Dalton makes me smile like crazy and want to constantly talk about him to all my friends and I can’t wait to be able to spend the rest of my life with him and soon be Mrs. Harrelson.”
