She Says…
I met Clint the day I moved to the DC area in April of 2015, at a welcome BBQ my roommates threw for me. I was overwhelmed by the move and a breakup, and it was difficult to get him to chat. So, when Maria told me later that he thought I was cute, it caught me off guard. Over the next couple of months, we were on different pages. Clint crashed my birthday dinner1, I adamantly denied having a crush on him, and we dated other people. I wanted to focus on making friends and settling in. But larger forces were at play. He'd pop into my head when I checked out new running spots. Just as he started to lose interest, mine materialized. It was game over by the end of the summer. Looking back, it’s hard to believe I almost missed out on how marvelously sharp, funny, adventurous, and steadfast Clint is. I’m grateful for him every day.
He Says...
I met Katie the first day she moved to the DC area after our now-mutual friend (and wedding officiant!) Maria told me I should come over to meet her cute new roommate at their BBQ. I was glad to see the description was accurate. However, I was surprised Katie was so quiet and not making more of an effort to make new friends (I now realize she was just trying not to cry after moving across the country2). At that point, Katie said she was “getting over her ex-boyfriend” or something lame like that, insisting she was not on the dating market. We spent the next few months hanging out in groups and getting jealous when we saw each other with other people. After the now-infamous champagne and shackles party where we were handcuffed together, Katie dropped her ex-boyfriend excuse and allowed us to start dating. In the coming years, I came to admire Katie’s sense of humor, intelligence, work ethic, and willingness to put up with all my idiosyncrasies3, making me realize I’d found my partner for life.

Nowadays, we share passions for being active, admiring other peoples’ dogs, traveling (we’ve been to 12 countries together—Croatia most recently), and the fast-casual restaurant scene in our neighborhood, Ballston. We got engaged in Alaska in June (ask us about the snafu trying to get a picture) and we are thrilled to celebrate with you this May!
