Opposites attract…
Sarah and I first met in college at Slippery Rock University in 2013. I was the gold star student, always studying. Sarah was naturally smart and a procrastinator. For YEARS, Sarah and some mutual friends tried to get me to go out, they even gave me a cool nickname, “T-Rev“ that never seemed to stick. But I couldn’t break the habit of spending day and night in the library. It wasn’t until we got to graduate school that we started to get close. Which was a complete coincidence, as we didn’t know that each other had even applied to the same school.
..To find out they’re not as opposite
During the first year of grad school at West Virginia University, we became best friends. Sarah finally got the nickname “T-rev” to stick and I learned quickly not to be the gold star student. After a summer trip to Nashville Sarah started to grab my eye in a different way. During the second year of grad school we were always together and became regulars at a brewery every Wednesday night. I tried to keep my feelings quiet but after planning a birthday party for Sarah, my feelings became quite obvious. Sarah was hesitant at first but quickly became in awe. The relationship has been put to the test with long distance, quarantine, living together, and long distance again!
The adventure begins…
The proposal I had been planning did not turn out how I envisioned. It was February and I planned a hike in Coopers Rock State Park, where we took our first hike as a couple. I had invited our friends to come visit and go on this hike to capture the moment. The day was cold and raining with snow still on the mountains and Sarah wanted no part of it. Everyone had to convince Sarah to go on this hike, and when we finally got there the park was closed! The quick and easy 1 mile hike to the overlook turned into a 7 mile roundtrip hike in the snow and rain. Once we made it to the top it was so cloudy there was nothing to see, but the adventure was perfect, I got down on one knee and we popped champagne when Sarah said yes!
